Handpans (panArt Hang, Saraz, Halo, and Tank Drum)

Wherever I play Handpans such as the Hang, the Halo, the Saraz or other types, people approach me with many questions and want to know how to acquire one for themselves to play and enjoy.

πŸ₯ About Handpans

The handpan can be elusive for those who wish to buy one and learn its secrets. Here are the main handpan instruments I recommend researching:

Recommended Handpan Instruments:

Halo – Made in USA, expensive, choose your own tuning, similar to Hang

PanArt Hang – No longer available, made in Switzerland (the original)

Saraz – This is what I play currently, made in the midwestern U.S. Learn more about Saraz

Tank Drum – Affordable, made in USA, beautiful sound, choose tuning, hands or mallets

Hapi Drum – Similar to Tank, some advantages, some drawbacks, different USA maker, similar price point

Rav Vast – Beautiful, a different type of handpan with great resonance and fairly affordable

Bell and European Models – Upwards of $2000, long waiting list. Spain, Italy, Germany, and Russia all have people making quality instruments

“Aharon’s experience with a diverse mix of musical traditions and various percussion instruments means that the potential of our lessons and my advancement is virtually limitless. Although each of my RAV drums only has 9 or 10 notes, he has helped me discover just how expansive my instruments truly are. I have been learning about rhythm, timing, striking techniques, concepts around taking listeners on a journey, understanding the feeling invoked by the different forms of playing, how to play melodically or percussively and how to meld the two, and so much more.”
